Bee lab!

This post is about something completely different from my previous posts - it is about honey bees!

I am currently taking a class called "Entomology 2600: Biology of the Honey Bee" and its accompanying lab class, "Entomology 2640: Practical Beekeeping." I've been interested in this class since I was a freshman, but it is only offered in alternate years and I never seemed to be able to take it until now. What fun!

Here are some pictures from our lab last Thursday, Sept 11.

Wearing our bee veils

Confused bees

Passing around a comb
Bees flying everywhere! Apparently we confused them by standing in front of the entrance to their hive, and they were unable to go back in and instead swarmed around us.
